For those of you who follow me on social media you will know that a few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to travel to the ‘One and Only Hayman Island’ (tough gig right?). What I discovered was not only a beautiful destination to relax and unwind, but also an incredible haven for all things health and wellness. Yes, you read that correctly, you can still be healthy on your island holiday! This week I listed the top 5 highlights of our stay (and also provide you with a few more BTS shots from our Vera Wang shoot).
There is a common misconception that when you travel to Italy, all you have to eat is Pizza, Pasta and Gelato however, I am pleased to report that this is simply not the case. Yes, you read that correctly, Italy puts on a pretty impressive ‘Paleo show’, all you have to do is know where to look. Today I share my holiday snaps, hotels, whole foodie finds and of course our highlights. Perhaps you can use this information to create one of your own heart warming adventures some time soon? If so, I can guarantee it will be nothing short of amazing.
Only a few months ago we took our first trip to New Zealand. Because we only had a short 4 days (and limited access to direct flights from Brisbane), we decided to base ourselves in Auckland and explore the North Island from there. Unfortunately, a cyclone was due to hit the coast in the middle of our stay, so we were confined to the inner city and surrounds a little more than we planned. Whilst this might seem a little disappointing, it meant we had a whole lot more time to explore whole-foodie restaurants and cafes in the area (tough gig, I know!). Here are some of our favourites; I can’t wait to go back…
For those of you who haven’t met Scott, Scott and Luke Hines formed the paleo inspired cooking duo on the 2013 series of My Kitchen Rules. After wow-ing the judges with their healthy take on traditional dishes (and receiving perfect 10s), they progressed through to the semi-finals, proving to everyone out there, that healthy food can also taste delicious. Their approach to a whole life and real food has seen them celebrated across the country and since then, Scott and Luke (both qualified Personal Trainers) have released two (AMAZING) books full of primal training programs and delicious whole food recipe creations.
Recently, I had the absolute pleasure of chatting with Scott Gooding where we talked all things health and happiness…
WWOOF or Willing Workers on Organic Farms is a new way to travel the world (for next to nothing) and it’s gaining incredible momentum. Experienced WWOOFer Jon Knight tells us how his experience travelling Europe turned out to be more than he could have ever imagined.
I am not sure what it is with LA, so many Australian’s visit each year and they all come back either having loved it or hated it. We were lucky enough to fall in love with it – the food was amazing, weather was perfect, we stayed in a gorgeous serviced apartment on venice beach… oh take me back! Maybe we just got lucky? Maybe we just landed on our feet? Or maybe it was all in the research before we arrived? Whatever the reason, this is how we had the best stay in LA and how you can too!
As we continued down the West Coast of Canada/US we drove into Seattle. In terms of healthy eats in Seattle, we held high hopes given we were staying just around the corner from the famous Pike Place Market. Whilst this was a great place to watch the fish throwing of the morning and grab an organic fresh juice, there wasn’t much else in terms of whole-foods meals (we had no kitchen) so we turned to a trusty old favourite… Find out how we ate healthy and remained active from Seattle to San Fran and beat the unhealthy fast food stereotype attached to the USA.
Yesterday my fiancee and I embarked on a long haul flight to Canada. It was a lengthy process, especially with a 6 hour delay connecting us from LA to Calgary, so I knew we needed to be prepared on the food front. We love to eat delicious, nourishing foods and when we fly there is no exception. After posting a quick snapshot of the food I had packed (that was after Andrew got stuck into it at breakfast), a number of followers on both Facebook and Instagram were surprised at the food I had packed and had loads of questions. I realised there were a number of followers out there who had no idea you could take your own food on the plane, let alone where to start, so I decided to share all I know all my tips and tricks to have you feeling 100% whilst you are flying.
