Overcoming Self Doubt

Last week I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing Scott Gooding. Scott is a former ‘My Kitchen Rules’ contender that, with the help of his mate Luke (you may remember the two as the healthy Paleo inspired chefs on the 2013 season) has gone on to release two amazing cookbooks and a spin-off TV show that spreads their wellness message.

Being a whole-foodie and passionate self confessed health nut, you can understand that I admire the work that both Scott and Luke have gone on to do. I have followed their success and recommend their books to anyone looking to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

Having just confessed my admiration for these guys, I can now admit that I felt a little intimidated doing this interview; and if I being completely honest, I can also admit that I put off making the initial phone-call about 3 times. I just didn’t think I was ready. I didn’t think I had enough behind me to warrant his time. I played the alternative scenarios over and over in my head; I’ll do it when I have XXX or YYY behind me (it’s amazing how easily we can talk ourselves out of things isn’t it?). As I contemplated the situation, I opened Instagram for a quick distraction. This is the first quote that appeared:

Fear-is-not-your-enemy.-It-is-a-compass-pointing-you-to-the-areas-where-you-need-to-grow-Steve-Pavlina

I couldn’t help but laugh. Thanks universe, you are completely right… again! I knew I needed to overcome this fear. After a few deep breaths, I made the initial call and funnily enough Scott laid all my fears to rest. He was more than happy to do the interview and loved my work. I was chuffed and spent the rest of the week on cloud nine.

Looking back, had I not made that call, I would have spent all this time doubting myself. I would have spent all that time wishing for something more instead of going out there and making it happen. Looking back, worry and self-doubt were just wasted, all-consuming negative emotions.

When I sat down with Scott to do the interview, I quickly realised that he had possessed that determination and the drive to overcome the fears we ALL possessed (he even had the guts to do it in front of the entire nation) and as a result, he is where he is today. We can learn a lot from the people we admire. I learnt a lot from Scott. I hope you do to. You can check out the full interview here.

Here’s to the go-getters!

Have a wonderful week everyone xx
